With so many demands on today’s families, parents need all the support they can get. That’s why child care at the Y is about more than looking after kids. It’s about nurturing their development, by providing a safe place to learn foundational skills, develop healthy, trusting relationships and building self-reliance through the Y core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
For generations, the YMCA has been known for its commitment to family life. YMCA programs and services have grown and adapted to the changing needs of families. Today, more and more parents are looking for quality, yet affordable childcare they can depend on. Whether your child is attending our infant/toddler program, preschool or our school age child care program, our goal is to provide a safe, fun environment. Like all Y programs, childcare is open to all.
With so many demands on today’s families, parents need all the support they can get. That’s why child care at the Y is about more than looking after kids. It’s about nurturing their development by providing a safe place for them to learn the foundational skills of Early Childhood Education, develop healthy, trusting relationships, and build self-reliance through the Y values. We believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life. The Preschool program is focused from the very beginning on Kindergarten readiness. We begin our Early Preschool program with our 2 ½ year olds. Our year-round curriculum includes thematic units that move the children through a progression of learning that can be adapted to meet the individual needs of the children at each level. Our facility allows us to provide the children breakfast, a full hot lunch and an afternoon snack as well as weekly swimming lessons and weekly gymnastics classes. We strive to educate the parent about the importance of their role in their child’s education from the very beginning. We keep parents informed through newsletters, scheduled and impromptu conferences, formal assessments and an open door policy that allows parents full view of what their child is involved in daily. We also encourage the parents to participate in family events throughout the year and to utilize our facility. A strong family relationship is vital to the ongoing education of our children, and we know that strong kids and strong families build strong communities.
We emphasize the four core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. We teach this to the children through day to day experiences, activities, and lessons. We give the children the opportunity to use verbal communication to solve problems. Our staff serves as positive role models and provides care that is supportive, nurturing, warm and responsive to each child's needs. Our open door policy allows parents the freedom of knowing what their children are doing at all times during the day.
The Licking County Family YMCA childcare center is licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
Our reputation for consistency, dedication and professionalism and safety make parents feel confident entrusting us with the care of their children. We continuously review our health and safety policies to ensure the well-being of each child. Our low child-to-teacher ratios enable the staff to foster solid relationships and provide sound guidance, while maintaining the stability that contributes so effectively to the comfort, security and development of the children in our programs.
The childcare center maintains high standards in health, hygiene, cleanliness and comfort. In order to provide a stimulating learning environment, the Children's Center is located inside the Warner Family Center and is equipped with appropriately sized furnishings, playground equipment and bathroom fixtures designed to help your child develop self-help skills.

Young children need appropriate stimulation. They need to be talked to and played with. They need love and attention. And they need the opportunity to form the kind of comfortable, secure relationship with a caregiver that will advance their healthy emotional development.
At the Licking County Family YMCA we value your children. We know your expectations are high, and we make every effort to provide a safe, clean and pleasant atmosphere.
Our teachers know that an infant who receives highly responsive care becomes more capable of learning. They offer the gentle interactions that build trust as they feed, diaper, sing, talk and play with your child. Our program also provides a stimulating play environment as well as activities that excited and engage the infants at their own developmental level.
Navigating, protecting and enriching the life and adventurous spirit of your toddler is precisely why we have taken great care in developing a toddler program that includes daily activities specifically focusing on developing cognitive, physical and social, language and self-help skills. Our teachers provide specifically designed lesson plans that offer exploration, excitement and exercise.
The unique needs of your two year old are met through our well-directed twos program, offering your child what he/she needs to succeed: the safety and freedom of a secure environment to explore that is full of enrichment and praise. Our program offers daily discover times that provide an opportunity to explore the learning centers with both teacher directed and child-initiated activities.
Our preschool program lays the ground work for successful elementary school years. The teachers instill a love of learning that allows our children to be life-long learners through a variety of engaging experiences. By allowing these children to participate in a safe, consistent, familiar preschool environment they develop a comfort level with their teachers. Because of that comfort they will be more willing to take risks in the classroom and this allows them to become more involved and ask questions, participate and become leaders in their future classrooms. Our pre-kindergarten classrooms mirror those of a typical kindergarten classroom; this encourages a smooth transition from preschool to kindergarten/elementary school.
This program provides quality affordable care for children ages six through thirteen that will help promote social, emotional and cognitive skills. The program operates from 6:30am-6:00pm providing care for both before and after school hours, including early release days, allowing parents to work a full day. The YMCA provides transportation for the students participating in the before and after school care program. Care is made available during snow days and regularly scheduled out of school days such as Spring Break, Christmas vacation, and teacher in-service days.
